What it is
A long table, a calendar, and the footage.
San Diego AI Studio is San Diego's AI builder community. A Sharathon is one long table, laptops open, people showing each other what they built, why they built it, and how. Two have happened so far: the first in Ocean Beach on May 16, the second at Brew Coffee Spot in La Mesa on August 23, with thirteen demos on the mic.
Between events, the Studio keeps a live calendar of the AI meetups happening across the whole city, and Discord is where the work happens between Sharathons. People drop projects mid-build, ask the question they don't want to post on X, and help each other ship.
With permission, we capture selected footage and audio from our meetups and share material when it is available and cleared for sharing. We use feedback and shared projects to understand what people found difficult and improve the next session. Rewatch what we can share. Use it within its sharing permissions. Start your own meetup. Lucas is a builder in San Diego. When building got fast enough that his ideas stopped dying in notebooks, he wanted people to build beside. So he started San Diego AI Studio.
The Sharathon is where it began: fifteen people at one long table in Ocean Beach, four hours, free, sharing what they were building. The studio grew from there: a calendar of AI events around the city, projects and recordings we can share, and conversations with San Diego businesses about work that takes too much time.
All of it points at one thing: getting good at making stuff, so the ideas people carry around start existing. The tools that used to be reserved for the privileged and the lucky are here now, and the people who get good at them get a say in what comes next. Lucas would like that to be as many of us as possible.
What we believe
Done killing ideas in notebooks.
Ideas die in notebooks. You'd have a spark, write it down, maybe sketch it, and then it would sit there, buried in its final resting place till the end of time, because the time would never come that you'd have extra time to work on that one great idea.
Now we have more ways to get those ideas off the page.
AI gives us more ways to start making those ideas. Try a small version, see what works, and get help with the parts you haven't learned yet.

Non-technical to mega-nerd, we're all learning as these tools change. Help someone get unstuck, show what you've tried, and build together. We like seeing Boris and his team at Anthropic play with ideas, find what works, and ship. That's the kind of experimentation we want here.
