Volunteer roles with a written scope and an end.

Every role here has a written scope, a time box, and an end. You get credit by name and a seat at the front. The roles are unpaid, carry no ownership, and are not employment.

These are unpaid community roles. They carry no ownership, employment, or exclusivity, and either side can end one at any time.

Pair Mentor

Sit one to one with a newcomer for twenty minutes so they leave having built something.

You own
  • The newcomer table for your shift
  • Walking one person at a time through the mini-course
  • Handing them to the next mentor if you need a break
Not yours
  • Pitching your own product or services
  • Recruiting for anything
  • Your own demo slot (sign up for that separately)
Time box
One Sharathon. Arrive thirty minutes before doors, done when the last newcomer has something running. Reviewed after each event, and you pick whether to do the next one.

  • Your name on the recap page and in the newsletter for that event
  • A reserved seat at the front
  • A reference from Lucas for the work you did

Floor Host

Float the room so nobody stands alone or looks lost.

You own
  • Spotting the person by the wall and getting them into a conversation
  • Pointing people to mentors, the demo list, the bathroom, the wifi
  • Telling Lucas when the room energy drops
Not yours
  • The demo clock (that is the Demo Wrangler)
  • Selling anything
  • Handling money or the door list

Demo Wrangler

Run the show-and-tell clock: nine-minute slots on a visible countdown.

You own
  • The presenter order and the countdown
  • Calling time at the end of each slot
  • Keeping the room's energy up between demos
Not yours
  • Picking who presents (the list is first come, first served)
  • Judging or ranking the demos
  • Changing the format on the day
Time box
One Sharathon, from the first demo block to the last. Reviewed after each event.

How it ends

Photo and Video Capture

Shoot short clips, write down quotes, and take the group photo at the time on the run sheet.

You own
  • Short clips of demos and the room
  • Three to five quotes written down with the person's name
  • The group photo at the time on the run sheet
  • Handing every file to Lucas the same day
Not yours
  • Posting anything yourself before the recap goes out
  • Filming anyone who has said no to being filmed
  • The main camera and audio rig (that is the AV Lead)
Time box
One Sharathon, doors to breakdown, plus the same-day file handoff. Reviewed after each event.

  • Photo and video credit by name on the recap page and in the newsletter

How it ends
Either side can end it at any time by text. Photos and video you take at the event belong to SD AI Studio.

Door and Check-in

Name tags, the check-in list, and the headcount.

You own
  • The check-in list and name tags
  • The headcount at doors and at the first demo
  • Getting each person's yes or no on being filmed at check-in
Not yours
  • Taking money (there is none to take at Sharathon)
  • Turning anyone away without checking with Lucas
  • The room itself once doors close (that is the Floor Host)
Time box
One Sharathon. Arrive forty-five minutes before doors, done thirty minutes after doors open, then you are a regular attendee. Reviewed after each event.

How it ends

Take this role

AV Lead

Camera, audio, power, mounts, the ready kits, the display check with every presenter, and the file handoff.

You own
  • Everything that records or projects, from venue access to breakdown
  • The display check with each presenter before their slot
  • Where the files live between the event and publication
Not yours
  • Programming or the presenter list
  • Publishing footage
  • Committing the studio to any gear purchase
Time box
Standing role, one event at a time. Reviewed after each event.

  • AV credit by name on every recap and recording
  • A reserved seat at the front
  • A reference from Lucas for the work you did
How it ends
Either side can end it at any time by text. Footage you record at the event belongs to SD AI Studio.

Where volunteer work stops

Volunteer roles are community and event work: hosting, mentoring, greeting, capture, setup. Anything that touches the studio's revenue, like client builds, product code, paid deliverables, or sales, is paid contractor work with its own written scope, or it does not happen. Nobody volunteers on the business side.

Anything you make for the studio in a role, like footage, photos, graphics, or copy, is the studio's to use. You keep the right to show it as your own work.
